The workshop is organized in Dubrovnik from Sept 16^th– Sept 19^th 2024, as a part of the 29^th Annual International Conference on Information Technology and Journalism: Artificial Intelligence and Media

In recent years, virtual communication has become an increasingly popular model of interaction for individuals, communities, and organizations. With the exponential growth of the social media popularity, messaging apps, and virtual reality platforms, people can now interact with others in ways that were previously impossible. However, as virtual communication becomes more prevalent, it also poses new challenges and risks.

We invite the scientific community – researchers, professors, and PhD students to submit papers that explore the challenges posed by virtual communication, including but not limited to:

• The impact of virtual communication on the individualization of communication habits
• The role of virtual communication in shaping public opinion and political discourse
• The challenges of building trust and credibility in virtual communication
• The ethical issues associated with virtual communication
• The use of virtual communication in education and training
• The implications of virtual communication for business and commerce
• AI-driven content personalization and its impact on user engagement
• The role of AI in combating misinformation and deepfakes
• AI’s influence on the creative processes in media production
• The evolution of audience analytics and its implications for media strategy
• AI and the future of public relations and communication strategies

 

We are also welcoming submissions for the Conference which address the following topics: 

 

• Has online journalism changed the landscape of news media?
• Has the rise of online journalism led to a decline in the quality and credibility of news reporting?
• Online journalism role in shaping public opinion and political discourse
• Online journalism influence on the way we consume news, and what are the implications for democracy
• Fake news and misinformation in the online environment
• The impact of artificial intelligence on the future journalism, media and communication

• What can AI perform in different journalism tasks?
• Does IA involve only the combination of existing information?
• Severe discussion about copyright problem in AI training
• Developing of ethical standards for use of AI
• Technological and economic impact of AI to society

 

ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS

Abstracts should not be longer than 500 words and should include:

• Title
• Author and Affiliation
• Core theoretical premise of the paper
• Methodology and relevant information on data collection and analysis
• Key findings or questions that analysis will address in an ongoing or future research

 

Abstract deadline: June 30th^, 2024.

Notification of acceptance: July 15^th, 2024.

Registration and Conference Fees:

All participants (presenters and non-presenters) must register to be able to attend the conference.

Paper presenters and co-authors: 100 Euros

Students and non-presenters: 50 Euros

 

ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

Our workshop is supported by IPSA RC10 and RC22 and organized by the University of Zagreb, InMed Institute (https://www.edemokracija.hr/), and Fake News museum (https://mlv.hr).

Annual International Conference on Information Technology and Journalism (ITJ) conference has been organized for 29 years now. The joint RC10/RC22 workshop was first launched in 2010 and has been organized as part of the conference since then.

Inter-University Centre Dubrovnik is an independent international institution for advanced studies structured as a consortium of universities with a mission to organize and promote contact and exchange through projects, study programs, courses, and conferences across a wide range of scientific concerns. Program directors and resource persons coming from about 170 member universities worldwide cooperate in organizing the activities. IUC is open to new member institutions as well as to new programs.
