The Eighteenth International Conference on Information Technology and Journalism, will take place at the Inter-University Center in Dubrovnik, May 27 – 31, 2013

 

Dear colleagues,

The Eighteenth International Conference on Information Technology and Journalism,

will take place at the Inter-University Center in Dubrovnik, May 27 – 31, 2013. The

conference is organized by the Institute for New Media and E-democracy (InMed),

together with Department of Journalism; Faculty of Political Sciences, (University of

Zagreb) and Department of Information Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social

Sciences, (University of Zagreb),

 

This year we would like to explore the future of information technology and

journalism (after 18 years we deserve it…). Our field of interest should include:

 

Internet freedom – where we are now?

Changing concepts of democracy in the 21st century and the role of media

The interface between protest movements and journalists

Information ecology: new journalist jobs or disaster

Mobilizing communities through social media

Digital Divide – digital natives vs. digital immigrants and destiny of media

Web-economy, and new business models in media industry

 

IPSA’s Research Committee 10 on Electronic democracy and Faculty of Political

Science in partnership with DEL research network are organizing IPSA Workshop on

The Role of the Internet and New Media in Foreign Affairs on first two days of the

Conference (27-28 May 2013). Following topics are announced:

Transformation of diplomacy through new media

Twitter for diplomats

EU institutions and the net

The role of New Media in transforming public diplomacy

Social networks, blogs and the EU

Diplomacy after WikiLeaks – what has changed

Crowd sourcing and governments

The deadline for submission of papers, presentations and posters is April 19,

  1. Submissions should be send via e-mail to one of the directors’ addresses. For

presentations, please send us the title, author(s) name(s) and e-mail, institutional

affiliation(s), and an abstract (150-300 words) written in English.

 

Registration deadline is May 17th, 2013. We kindly ask all potential participants to

register in advance. Those who are not presenting their research or applied work may

register before May 17 if places are still available. The conference fee is 80€ for

speakers, 100€ for participants without paper, and 50€ for students. The fee includes

conference entry, proceedings and social program during the conference. Preconference

social program is to be announced. Fee is payable at the conference in

Dubrovnik.
